San An has enough bars – club-bars, lounges, pubs and even local bars – to drown the devil himself. There are three distinct areas: the 'West End' is a Brit-only territory of pubs and footy-shirt-clad drinkers that might as well have the Union Jack flying overhead. The renowned Sunset Strip has a more mellow vibe, while along the beach promenade there are lounge-style places.

1Boho Haven

Beginning on San An's promenade, Tulp ( GOOGLE MAP ; Avinguda Dr Fleming; h 11am-2am May-Sep; W) is a cool beach bar with a zany colour scheme, shisha pipes and hammocks, plus Chesterfield sofas scattered with cushions for quality lounging. Don't expect a flower power soundtrack – DJs spin purely electronic vibes. They serve reasonably priced grub; the set menu is just €12.95.
